In light of eyewitness and video evidence of lethal chemical weapons deployed against innocent civilians in eastern Ghouta, Syria, including women and children, on August 21, 2013;
In light of the severity of this attack, resulting in hundreds of deaths and scores of injuries;
In light of the fact that this area was subsequently bombed, thus preventing further corroboration of this evidence by the UN expert team already present in Syria to investigate previous chemical weapons attacks in Khan al-Assal, near Aleppo, and other locations;
We call on the President to recognize these continued violations of international humanitarian law, establish a No-Fly Zone, and take reasonable, forceful measures to prevent future killing per the Responsibility to Protect civilians against mass murder.
