Take Literary Analysis out of English Class

Created by L.P. on March 23, 2015

Literary analysis is taught in most schools nation-wide. It should be removed from main-stream English classes and made an elective, heres why:

Its useless and completely subjective:
For example: Essays written about Fahrenheit 451 for decades, described how it is about government censorship, however the author has blatantly stated it is not about censorship.

It involves mostly outdated works with no relevance
Douglas Bruster, a professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin, says that Shakespeare is outdated, and isn't part of our culture.

Only English majors use it
In a world increasingly centered around math and science, its bad to taking focus away from something that will only really be used by English majors.

The education system isn't doing so hot, so lets fix it.
