Currently if Marijuana was taken off the list of schedule one drugs, then individual states could decide for themselves whether or not to legalize it. In this way, Marijuana would not be legalized in every state, but the ownership/possession/and or use of Marijuana would not be a federal offense. As it stands, in states where Marijuana is legalized for medical uses and recreational use, it is still a federal offense which the Obama administration has decided not to enforce. Enforcing the federal law in such trivial cases of medical or recreational use would be a misallocation of federal resources. However, not enforcing federal law shows an unwillingness of the federal government to enforce federal laws. If individual states do not respect federal law, then what holds the country together?
