Microsoft Corporation is a convicted monopolist. They used overly aggressive marketing practices in the early days of personal computing and have such a stranglehold on the marketplace that it is holding back the ability of independent developers of software and hardware from competing on a level playing field. They continually evade the judgements against them through extensive appeals processes, blatant refusal to meet their obligations under the law, and even now are planning to monopolize the ARM desktop platform through the use of UEFI politics. Microsoft has sold buggy, virus prone software for many years and has not been able to produce a merchantable product in all this time. They only get away with this due to their stranglehold on corporate customers, certainly not by merit.
