The old yes/no argument on gun control is going nowhere. Here's a new approach. 1.Mandatory gun education and training by vet's beginning in middle school, complete with competitive leagues for the kids. 2.Good scores on school gun exams and a clean record ties to the weapon you are allowed to have, with almost everyone qualifying for a basic single shot, for example. 3.For high schoolers, create close ties to the military with rewards such as paid summer camps, and career opportunities for qualified 16+ year olds. With these tactics and more, over time we could change the gun culture to one that is based on professionalism and civic contribution. Gun companies and the NRA need not see any reduction in gun count, just a rationalization of who owns what.
