take the oath of office upon the Constitution and Bill of Rights instead of a religious text

Created by F.J. on January 15, 2013

No religious test is required for public office. It should be asked, then, is an oath upon a religious text required when assuming an office?

In recent precedent, a congresswoman recently took her oath of office upon a copy of the Constitution. This act seems more reasonable as a citizen and public servant of the United States.

This petition is simple, all oaths are to be taken upon the Constitution and none upon religious texts.
