According to the American Society for Prevention of Cruel Treatment of Animals, 62 % of households in the United States have a pet. These pets are protected by animal cruelty legislation such as the Animal Welfare Act. However, as of late, it has come to the attention of many Americans that our pets are not protected from abuse of one key kind: humiliation. Pets are unable to communicate their preferences to humans, and, as such, are subjected to regular humiliation, the worst of which is ridiculous naming. Since the dawn of this nation, the ludicrous naming of pets has gone unchecked. I am calling for a revision of the Animal Welfare Act to prevent owners from naming domesticated animals stupid names. Under this revision, my parents would have to name our newborn French Bulldog "Bandit."
