Despite this, the public and the President have focused on reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban, despite assault weapons being involved in less than 1% of all gun crime, and every study on the prior ban confirming it had no impact on gun crimes. We have a long, thorough and expensive approval process for Class 3 firearms, add high-capacity magazines and all semiautomatic rifles to that, rather than banning them for emotional appeal.
We need to federalize gun and self-defense laws. Mental illness needs to be added to NICS background checks, which should be required for all gun purchases, including gun shows. Safety training should be required for all gun purchases, as well as all states' CCW programs
