Take Social Security out of the General Fund

Created by A.H. on February 09, 2013

Since the Supreme Court in the 1960s declared Social Security to be a tax and an entitlement all monies were placed into the General Fund and Congress could appropriate what they felt they needed at any time. Originally, Social Security was to be a hedge for the average worker after retirement paid for by a combination of individual, corporate funds and interest from government investments. By taking Social Security out of the General Fund the individual retiree can be assured of having at least something that can be used in his/her later years. Social Security is not an entitlement because taxes are paid on the benefits. Bringing Social Security back to its original purpose will afford older Americans who have worked all their lives the honor and respect they eared and deserve.
