There are over 27 million men, women, and children still enslaved in today's society; this is more than ever before.
Since the end of Bush's administration, the sense of urgency concerning human trafficking and slavery has diminished in the US government. For example, in 2011, Congress failed to reissue the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (2000), which helped provide security for persons who may be victims of trafficking or slavery.
This is a request for the Obama administration to not only take a stand for what is moral, but also a request for our leader to invest in the efforts to end trafficking and slavery around the world.
The United States has the potential to be a world leader in the fight against slavery and trafficking if it would make it a topic of interest.
