take steps to ensure the safety and well-being of American LGBT athletes and attendees at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi

Given the recent violence towards the LGBT community in Russia and the legal obstacles enforced by the Russian government, we have grave misgivings for the safety and well being of our LGBT athletes and attendees at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Gays and Lesbians are being assaulted in the streets of Russia, and the government there can not and does not wish to guarantee the liberty and physical well-being of its own citizens, and yet we are sending our fellow Americans into such a volatile environment .This egregious violation of human rights is not acceptable for any Olympiad, and we ask that the US State Department, the Obama Administration, and the United States Olympic Committee, make known that this is neither acceptable nor will be tolerated
