Take tangible steps to hold the Egyptian government accountable for its undemocratic practices.

Created by M.E. on April 16, 2013

On 4/7, Egypt received 140,000 tons of US tear gas. The same day, Egyptian police were complicit in throwing tear gas & allowing thugs to attack St. Mark’s Cathedral, a central 2000-yr old Coptic symbol.

This is not the 1st time that US aid & weapons have fueled bloodshed, violence & sectarianism. While the US condemns worrying events like this, it must begin to follow its rhetoric with tangible action & take real steps to incorporate conditionality into the billions of unaccounted-for-aid that bolsters the Muslim Brotherhood’s authoritarian practices. As Egypt’s most important ally & a democratic symbol, the US cannot continue to engage in facial rhetoric that will ultimately threaten its own national security & uphold the moral decrepitude that may bring Egypt to the brink of civil war.
