A large hospital where I used to serve in Gidel, Nuba Mountains, Sudan was built by the Catholic Diocese of El Obeid in 2005. It is the only hospital within several hundreds of miles and we used to even get Arab patients coming for help from Khartoum. It's an amazing place with 200 beds but at times housing patients of over 400. Here's a link to many articles and News stories about it:

Despite bombing around the hospital, the foreign and local staff, many who are Americans and European nuns, have never had bombing on their compound.
This week, the tables have turned. I am in contact with my nurse friend Margaret Camara and the Camboni Sisters and the Antenov plane has barraged them. They are under constant attack unknown to the world.
