Taking the High Stakes out of Standardized Testing

We, the undersigned students at Stokes School, do strongly petition for relief from the burdens and demands of high stakes standardized testing as it exists in the nation. High stakes standardized tests penalize our diversity. We all have different learning styles. Some of us are visual learners, kinesthetic learners, or even oral learners. Yet we are all judged by one type of test. Unfortunately, there are wonderful teachers who are in jeopardy of losing their jobs and great schools that are in jeopardy of losing funding because they are judged on the results of one test. We feel that standardized testing as it stands distorts the course of education and the learning of children. We feel that is an unfair, biased, and superficial way to judge students, teachers and school achievement.
