Recent investigative reports by the New York Times and other news outlets show a pattern of collusion between the Tallahassee, FL police department and the Florida State University in shielding football players from criminal charges such as sexual assault, domestic violence and other felonies. Players who receive such privileged immunity from law enforcement continue their abhorrent behavior when they reach the professional ranks. The cycle needs to be broken.
An investigation into this collusion needs to be conducted by organizations outside the state. John Thrasher, the newly named president of the University is a Florida political insider and would likely try to thwart any meaningful inquiry by state agencies.
