Churches are completely exempt from all taxes, thereby taxing the 20% of the population that does not believe in any religion. This is a violation of the Constitutional separation of Church and State, and as such should be ended.
Not only have churches' tax-exempt status unfairly taxed those without religion, many churches take unfair advantage of their status to make un-needed investments, eg. the Mormon Church, which owns stock in Burger King and recently built a "Super-Mall" by their temple.
If all churches were taxed equally, there would be no discrimination against any religion nor against the non-religious. The money could be used to help fund the budget gap, or be invested in scientific research to keep America strong in the future.
