Currently Military Basic Pay and Retirement Pay is taxed at normal rates. Since this income is directly related to the defense of our nation it should be tax exempt even when not serving in a combat tax exempt zone. On average every soldier will serve over seas during a normal 4-6 year enlistment. The service they provide is efficient to exempt this income from additional taxes. Retirees who have served their country for 20 or more years should not have to pay additional taxes on the benefits which they have earned. I would like to see a tax exemption for all basic pay and retirees for all soldiers regardless of duty location.
