Promote gun safety and responsible gun ownership via public service messages supported by a tax on firearms and/or other revenues.
Too many gun owners are influenced too strongly by Hollywood depictions glorifying gun battles, and perhaps by video games having similar content.
Anti-smoking advertisements supported by tobacco taxes have proven effective in reducing smoking. It is reasonable to think educational advertisements could work the same for firearms to reduce irresponsible use of guns.
Because no reduction of gun ownership rights would be involved, opposition from pro-gun groups seems unlikely.
