A 9mm bullet may cost as little as $0.26 but one 300mg tablet of a well used antipsychotic drug can cost as much as $12 per tablet and require a prescription and are highly regulated. We tax cigarettes because they are a danger to public health. We should tax guns and ammunition to help fund mental healthcare, therapy, and medications for anyone who needs it.
