First, hospitals and medical centers designated as "non-profit," but who in fact make extremely large profits, should lose their tax exempt status. Second, chargemasters (a database of charges for everything from bandages to medicines to medical procedures) should be regulated. Charges on most hospital chargemasters have profit margins of four to fives times (or more) the actual cost. This has caused the cost of health care and health insurance to skyrocket. There should be limits on what hospitals can charge.
