The US government should collect taxes from churches and use it towards education for the poor.
Tax exemptions for churches give religious organizations an unfair advantage over secular organizations. The separation of state from church should be interpreted to mean that the state should not favor the church over any other organization.
Churches often operate for the benefit of a single individual, which should disqualify them from 501(c)(3) tax exemption: "The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests, and no part of a section 501(c)(3) organization's net earnings may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual."
