Tax smokeless tobacco, &cigars at the same rate as cigarettes. so they arent a cheap alternative to cigs for teens.

Created by R.W. on April 23, 2013

Federal and state taxes on smokeless tobacco are much lower than the taxes on cigarettes. As a result many young people see dip and chew as a cheap alternative to smoking. Many also mistakenly believe smokeless tobacco is safer. In some parts of the country smokeless tobacco use among young men is at epidemic proportions. We are likely to see a major spike in oral cancer cases in the next few decades. Let's stop this by eliminating the tax discrepancies between smokeless tobacco and cigarettes!
