The Alcohol & Tobacco Tax Trade Bureau is a newly created organization which is taxing large cigars higher than any other product it regulates. The current tax is: 52.75%. We at Cigar Chamber of Commerce feel that premium cigars are marketed not as an addictive substance yet rather as a gourmet food item such as caviar, cheese, or extra virgin olive oil and should not be subject to the same tobacco tax as cigarettes or any tobacco product for that matter. If premium cigars do end up being regulated by the FDA we request that 100% of tobacco taxes be dropped and that premium cigars obtain exempt status from such taxation.
