Teacher Expense Tax Exemptions

Created by G.W. on August 29, 2016

Teachers are integral to the health of our country. We all agree that teachers are over worked and underpaid. However, what many people don't know is that teachers regularly spend their own money on school supplies for students. School budgets are tight and many schools are unable to provide money for teachers to buy school supplies necessary for student success. Currently teachers are allowed a $250 deduction on their taxes to cover expenses. Many teachers are spending much more than this on school supplies. This petition asks that the amount allowed for the teacher expense deduction increased to $500 as this would more adequately reflect the amount that many teachers spend on school supplies during a calendar year.
