"Assault Weapons" account for 1-4% of gun related murders in America. Targeting them will be ineffective in preventing the violent crimes they try to target (as seen in the 1994 ban). However, bans may place large restrictions on (and potentially criminalize) the *Legal* owners of 10-15million of these rifles into felons overnight. Many thousands will be out of work.
Bad people will always exist, and bad people will continue to find ways to create tragedies such as the Sandy Hook shooting with or without this promoted legislation. It is an unfortunate occurance, but let us not allow the media to push us into making emotionally charged, and irrational decisions which burden millions of citizens' constitutional rights.
