Responding to allegations that its AP US History course "emphasizes negative aspects of our nation's history while omitting or minimizing positive aspects," the College Board recently chose to adjust the class's curriculum to present a brighter vision of America's past.
Similarly, we hold in the name of patriotism that Millard Fillmore should be referred to in the course only as America Von Liberty.
Just as the new curriculum will help prevent students from seeing our nation as one plagued by racism, class division, and struggle, we believe that referring to our 13th president as America Von Liberty will help students see the U.S. as the totally rad nation it surely is. Millard is, after all, a totally lame name, and we wouldn’t want students’ image of our nation to be tainted.
