We know what the White House will say; they don't have any control over congress. But In this we ask them to do everything they can to get Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
An historical piece of legislation cannot be taken off the books because the people that it doesn't affect say they don't need it.
While the states it effected (including Texas which not two hours after the act's repeal changed it's voting laws) claimed that they do not need it anymore it has been used upwards of 70 times to protect minorities' voting rights.
The Voting Rights Act is widely considered among the most far-reaching pieces of civil rights legislation in U.S. history. We cannot allow it to be struck down, so we ask the White House to help us tell Congress that it should be restored.
