For a long time, same-sex couples and non-married heterosexual couples who are provided health insurance coverage by their employer for their family are unfairly discriminated against by the US tax code.
Unlike their married counterparts, same-sex individuals are taxed on any health insurance provided to their partner as if it was part of their income, drastically increasing their personal tax burden with no reason or justification. This is wrong.
The senate and house have considered several bills to right this wrong but it has never gotten out of committee. The last attempt was S. 1171 and H.R. 2088, known as the Tax Parity For Health Plan Beneficiaries Act.
All families, including those with same sex parents are struggling. Stand up for equal rights; ask our representatives to act!
