Tell Drug Companies They Can Not Patent Genes

Created by R.B. on September 24, 2011

Drug companies, such as Myriad, are patenting human genes and sequences for profit. These gene patents prohibit other companies from doing research on the patented genes, slowing if not halting possible critical research in drug therapy for multiple diseases. Human genes should not be used for profit, they belong in the public domain for the use and benefit of all people. It has been proven time and time again, the more people who work to solve a problem, the quicker a solution is found. Patents on genes stifle competition and can potentially protect a drug companies interests by halting the production of a cure for a disease and only allowing a treatment for the disease to come to market.
Tell President Obama, the FDA, and big Pharma, patents on human genes should be banned.
