Football is our national pastime. Americans watch football because of the excitement it brings. Yet one aspect of football has become boring and predictable, namely, the field goal. In 2012, 95% of all field goals attempted inside 40 yards have been made.
When teams line up for a field goal, big yawn. We call on the NFL to bring back the excitement to the field goal. The NFL should reduce the width of the goal posts from 18 feet, 6 inches, to 9 feet, 3 inches.
