In Peru, the powerful Romero conglomerate is planning to destroy 43 million acres of the Peruvian Amazon Rain Forest to create palm oil plantations. This equals an area the size of 40% of the state of California.
This will have devastating consequences for the environment; for the 23 indigenous tribes that live in this region; and for the global climate. This plan amounts to ecocide as well as genocide.
Review the Peru–United States Trade Promotion Agreement and ask President Ollanta Humala of Peru for an explanation. The United States cannot maintain normal trade relations with a country that is about to sell off the lungs of the planet. Urge Mr. Humala to put a stop to this insanity.
