On September 22, 2016, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson announced that DHS will resume Haiti deportations because “the situation in Haiti has improved sufficiently to permit the US government to remove Haitian nationals.” That's disingenuous and wrong; Haiti hasn't recovered from the devastating 2010 quake which killed 250,000 and destroyed most of its infrastructure; Haiti can't receive more deportees now given political and economic turmoil and an unchecked cholera epidemic caused by irresponsible United Nations actions which has killed 10,000 and sickened 1,000,000. President Obama should promptly reinstate the Haiti deportations halt and, further, broadly expand the currently much-too-limited Haitian Family Reunification Program to cover all beneficiaries on the waiting list.
