In February 2012, leaders of the United States Air Force announced their plan for “Force Structure Changes: Sustaining Readiness and Modernizing the Total Force.” The plan laid out changes that would seriously impact some 33 states, including Alaska. For Alaska, the Air Force announced its plan to move the only active Air Force flying unit located at Eielson AFB, the 18th Aggressor Squadron (F-16’s), to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson starting in the fall of 2012. This move, which would impact some 600+ active service members and hundreds of civilian employees, is billed as part of the Air Force’s global plan to achieve necessary operational and economic efficiencies.
Help show Alaskans are solidly behind keeping Eielson AFB fully operational.
