In order to address the humanitarian crisis of Syrian refugees seeking safety within Turkey, I propose to place a number of U.S. medical teams - whether military or civilian - within safe areas of southern Turkey near the Syrian border. Clearly, the Turkish government would not be against receiving U.S. personnel as they have already accepted U.S. military Patriot missile battery teams. Not only would this provide much needed medical assistance to people in need, but this would also place the U.S. in a more favorable light in the eyes of the Syrian people (and indeed other populations within the region) - similar to the goodwill the U.S. enjoyed after providing relief after the East Asian tsunami.
