Currently the California DMV has a requirement to provide an approved I-797 or I-94 to get the Driving License extension. For many people, it takes around 3 months to get H1B Approval from USCIS and during this period, they will not be able to drive. This makes life very difficult in many situations (like daily commute, emergencies etc). It would be more helpful if a temporary licence can be given while H1B extension is in progress.
