On March 28th, 2016, the DOJ announced that it will resume the Equitable Sharing Program, AKA "Civil Forfeiture," which permits police to keep assets seized from their citizens.
The program allows (and encourages) police to search AND seize your property without a warrant, without evidence of wrong doing, without an arrest--on the mere basis of 'suspicion' alone, which is a violation of our civil liberties.
Ambiguity of 'suspicion' could range from criminal activity to a defective taillight. Previous implementations of the program found widespread abuse of this power, with assets seized from innocent people who then faced lengthy, costly legal battles to obtain back their assets.
We the people petition you, President Barack Obama, to TERMINATE the Equitable Sharing Program IMMEDIATELY.
