The White House petition program, intending to create greater communication and understanding between the Administration and the American people, has clearly become something that can no longer be taken seriously and should be terminated immediately. These petitions have become the default reaction to anything anyone seems to be bothered by and turn the idea of effective citizen feedback into a joke. Calls for secession, arrests of journalists, giving Toledo to Michigan, construction of a Death Star, as well as countless others, prove that this approach has lost any effectiveness it ever had. The White House should not waste resources responding, regardless of signatures, and should end this program and focus on the real and important issues facing this nation.
