This does not address anything directly from the official response, but rather important points that were strangely absent from it.
Were marijuana legalized, it would open the door to further medicinal and practical use studies. Pharmaceutical companies could stand to potentially lose millions in medicinal sales if marijuana - a cheap, renewable plant, turned out to be viable alternative for any more expensive medicines. In addition, while not necessarily a viable substitute for fuel, hemp does have potential as an alternative to petroleum for many smaller uses, and therefore could cut into profits of big oil companies.
Please thoroughly discuss how much weight that these potential effects of marijuana legalization carry in the White House’s decision to keep marijuana illegal.
