Tie elected official pay to the average household income in the United States

Created by B.F. on April 04, 2013

In recent history, the elected officials seem to care more about helping themselves and their major campaign contributors than they do about doing the job they were elected to do, which is to help the American people. The current atmosphere in congress is not helping the economy to recover, the partisanship is actually hindering the recovery.
Because elected officials feel no financial repercussions from their actions, I propose making their pay a function of the average household income of the American people. As the country does better financially, they will do better financially, giving them incentive to pass legislation that will help the people, not just their contributors.
