Government transparency is a major tenet of your administration; so we thank you for giving police the opportunity to join in that transparency. This is especially important in light of the many recent examples of police misconduct that, but for cell phone video, likely would have gone unnoticed.
The use of body cameras and the reporting of data on officer-involved homicides should be mandatory, and a prerequisite to local police departments receiving any federal funds or surplus equipment from our government.
We are increasingly concerned about our civil rights being eroded by the very people sworn to protect them. Our federal tax dollars and surplus equipment should only be given to local police departments that are transparent and accountable to the public.
Sincerely,
The People
