Tie Federal Funding For Police Departments to Use of Body Cameras

Created by E.B. on December 01, 2014

Government transparency is a major tenet of your adminstration; so we thank you for giving police the opportunity to join in that transparency by pledging $75M in federal funds for body cameras. This is especially important in light of the many recent examples of police misconduct that, but for cell phone video, likely would have gone unnoticed.

We believe that the use of body cameras should be mandatory for all officers, and a prerequisite to police departments receiving any federal funds or surplus equipment from our government.

We are increasingly concerned about the militarization of police and our civil rights being eroded by the very people sworn to protect them. Our tax dollars should only be given to police departments that are willing to be transparent to the public.

Thank you
