Social Security is pathetic. Despite the cost of gas going up 300%, groceries going up an average of 30% and everything else going up in price, the annual COLA increse for Social Security recipients this year was 1.3%. That is a joke! I paid into the system for 50 years--whenever the government needed more money they increased taxes. I paid these taxes. I had taxes and Social Security taken out of my checks for 50 years of my life, yet my monthly check doesn't even cover my mortgage payment! It is impossible to live on Social Security. Yes, I saved my money for retirement for 50 years, too. But my wife got deathly ill ten years ago and it cost me my entire life savings trying to save her life. It kept her alive for a few extra years, but she succumbed last year. I have nothing left bu SS.
