Tighter restrictions on Nutrition Assistance.

Created by C.K. on January 22, 2013

Restrictions should be placed on what kind of food can be bough through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), to help better achieve the stated goal of "to help low-income people buy the food they need for good health."

Sugary, salty and fatty snack foods should not be allowed to be purchased using SNAP benefits, and instead only foods the would qualify in reaching the percent daily value for the appropriate nutrients.

Research shows poor diets contribute to serious health problems in adults, especially the elderly, poor diets can cause impaired brain development in children, creating a greater risk of educational failure and healthy food can lead to better school performance for children and better health outcomes for both children and adults.
