We heard from the President that shootings like the one in Newtown, CT, happen far too often. Most should agree that we can all agree with that statement.
Locks should be placed on all exterior doors to all schools to prevent unauthorized access. This event in Newton could have been avoided if the gunman was locked out of the school.
We can work to prevent these events in the future by securing the last line of defense, the doors.
An electronic lock operated by a code or card (for example) is used at many daycare centers. A similar system should be mandated for all schools.
