I have never been personally a victim of sexual abuse (like 1 in 4 women in the USA are), but I am shocked at how many movies today feature a scene of sexual violence. At the theaters or on TV, we are constantly shown rape or sexual abuse, either a simple mention, an attempt or an actual rape scene.
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rates movies according to several criteria, including violence, sensuality, nudity, graphic language, etc. Sexual violence should become one of those criteria. To allow sensitive viewers to prepare themselves; to discourage the use of rape scenes in movies when possible; and finally to stop giving that much visibility to sexual violence and rape.
