All of our current economic problems can be traced back to the implementation of free trade policies in the mid-90's; NAFTA, CAFTA & etc.
As American jobs began migrating to low wage third world countries, people began defaulting on their mortgages in record numbers. This led to the collapse of the mortgage markets in 2007-8 and the rest is now history and we've been sliding downhill ever since with no end in sight.
Unless and until we go back and modify those horrifically dysfunctional trade agreements of the past and stop instituting new ones, there is no hope for improving our unemployment numbers in any meaningful way despite temporary stop-gap measures like the current jobs bill.
