The TSA is discontinuing the use of certain full body scanners in airports nationwide. These scanners can be utilized in prisons to reduce the smuggling of drugs and weapons into prisons.
The use of these scanners will improve the safety and security of both corrections officers and inmates.
I recognize that implementing them will require planning. But, the government should immediately fund
- the collection and safe storage of the scanners,
- the ability for prisons to apply for a scanner via the web,
- the shipping and setup of each scanner.
This program will more than pay for itself.
- Lives will be saved.
- Medical costs will be reduced.
- Correctional officers will have a safer environment.
- Prisoners will have an opportunity to be clean during their incarceration.
