The U.S. Constitution vests authority to make war to Congress, not the President (Article I, Section 8, Clause 11.)
These powers have been transferred to the Executive Branch over time based on the assumption that decisions regarding defense may require speed that only an individual can provide, and that the president would be someone trustworthy enough for such a grave responsibility.
Now is the time to revert the powers of war away from the president and back to the far more representative Legislative Branch, as the U.S. Constitution and the Founders intended.
Technology can now allow a group of representatives to talk immediately.
Pressingly, we are weeks away from inaugurating the first president with no political or military background, and with an unstable temperament.
