Treatment of Prisoners

Created by D.C. on May 04, 2016

In America, we think of ourselves as the land of the free. However, in the criminal justice system, there are massive human rights violations that we pay for ourselves. Both adults and children are put in solitary confinement, which both isolates them and takes away all privacy. In addition, most nations have gotten rid of the death penalty, but the United States is the international leader in capital punishment, killing the most people per year. Prison is meant to be punitive, but we often take it too far, and do not focus on the rehabilitative side of prisons. Many released prisoners end up back incarcerated. Lastly, the criminal justice system disproportionately hurts the poor. To help, sign our petition asking Congress to introduce a bill protecting the human rights of prisoner.
