The True Democracy Amendment: Sponsor a Constitutional amendment to make Supreme Court justices elected by popular vote.

Created by P.J. on November 07, 2014

I call upon the Obama administration to sponsor a Constitutional amendment that would require Supreme Court justices to be elected by popular vote instead of allowing them to be appointed for life.

I suggest the following language:
"Justices of the United States Supreme Court must be elected by popular vote for 8-year terms---standing justices must run for election in the next election."

Appointment for life is fundamentally anti-democratic. It goes against everything America stands for as a nation.
That alone should be a sufficient reason.

When our Supreme Court justices make decisions that fundamentally harm America---with Orwellian rulings like "corporations are people" and "money is speech"---we should have the power to remove them. Otherwise this is not really a democracy.
